Patricia Carpenter Emerging Scholar Award

Thomas Jul Kirkegaard-LarsenThe Music Theory Society of New York State presents the Patricia Carpenter Emerging Scholar Award for best paper delivered by a graduate student at its annual meeting, held this year at Hunter College. We are delighted to announce that Thomas Jul Kirkegaard-Larsen (Aarhus University, Denmark & the CUNY Graduate Center) received the 2018 award for his paper, “ Transformational Attitudes in Scandinavian Function Theories.”

Named in honor of music theorist and Barnard College and Columbia University Professor Emerita Patricia Carpenter (1923 – 2000), the Carpenter Award carries a cash prize and promise of publication in our journal Theory and Practice. Both the oral and written version of the paper are taken into consideration and any student who has not yet received a doctoral degree at the time of the meeting is eligible.
